Imperative Sentence (आज्ञासूचक वाक्य) :- “The sentence which expresses order, request or advice is called the Imperative sentences.”

(जिस वाक्य से आज्ञा, अनुरोध अथवा सलाह का बोध होता हैं, आज्ञासूचक वाक्य कहलाता हैं)

Examples –
1 – Work hard.
2 – Don’t disturb me.
3 -Take your medicine regularly.
4 – Get out of the class.

Note – Imperative sentence – MV से प्रारंभ होता हैं और full stop (.) से समाप्त होता हैं।

Direct Narration के Reported Speech में आए हुए Imperative Sentence को Indirect Narration में बदलने का नियम :- यदि Direct Narration के Reported speach में आया हुआ वाक्य Imperative sentence हो तो इसे Indirect में बदलने के कुछ प्रमुख नियम इस प्रकार हैं –

Rule 1- R.V. – said या said to को भाव के अनुसार निम्न प्रकार से change करते हैं—
(i) order का भाव स्पष्ट होने पर ordered में ।
(ii) advice का भाव स्पष्ट होने पर advised में ।
(iii) request का भाव स्पष्ट होने पर requested में बदल देते हैं।

Rule 2 – R.S. में आये हुये Verb से पहले ‘to’ का प्रयोग करते हैं अर्थात verb को infinitive बना देते हैं।

Examples :-

Direct- My mother said to me, “Show me your book,”
Indirect – My mother ordered me to show her my book.

Direct – The doctor said to the patient, “Take your medicine regularly.”
Indirect -The doctor advised the patient to toke his medicine regularly.
Direct – Ravi said to his friend, “Give me your pen.”
Indirect – Ravi requested his friend to give him his pen.

Rule 3 – यदि R.S. में आया हुआ Imperative Sentence ‘do not’ से प्रारम्भ हो तो Indirect बनाने की दो विधियां हैं —

(i) R.V. – said या said to को forbade (मना किया ) में change कर देते हैं तथा don’t को हटाकर verb से पहले ‘to’ का प्रयोग करते हैं।
2 – R.V. said या said to को भाव के अनुसार ordered, advised या requested में change कर देते हैं तथा do शब्द को हटाकर verb से पहले ‘to’ का प्रयोग करते हैं।

Examples :-

Direct – My teacher said to me, “Don’t waste your time.”
Indirect – My teacher advised me not to waste my time.

Or

My teacher forbade me to waste my time. 

Direct – My brother said to his friend, “Don’t kill the innocent birds.”
Indirect – My brother advised his friend not to kill the innocent birds.

Or

My brother forbade his friend to kill the innocent birds.

Rule 4 – यदि R.S. का वाक्य Never से प्रारंभ हो तो Indirect बनाते समय R.V. – said या said to को advised में change कर देते हैं। तथा Never के पश्चात् आये हुये verb से पहले ‘to’ का प्रयोग करते हैं।

Examples :-

Direct – My teacher said to me, “Never waste your time.”
Indirect – My teacher advised me nevar to waste my time.
Direct – My mother said, “Never kill innocent birds.”
Indirect – My mother advised never to kill the innocent birds.

Rule 5 – यदि R.S. में आये हुये Imperative Sentence में sir, madam, kindly, please जैसे अनुरोध वाले शब्दों का प्रयोग हो तो Indirect बनाते समय R.V. – said या said to को requested में change कर देते हैं। तथा sir, madam, kindly, please जैसे शब्दो को हटा देते हैं।

Examples :-
Direct – The student said to the teacher. “Sir, help me.”
Indirect -The student requested the teacher to help him.
Direct – Mohan said to his friend, “Please give me your pen.”
Indirect – Mohan requested his friend to give him his pen.

Rule 6 – यदि R.S. में आया हुआ Imperative Sentences ‘Let’ से प्रारम्भ हो परंतु let के पश्चात्
‘us’ का प्रयोग न होकर किसी noun अथवा pronoun का प्रयोग हो तो Indirect बनाते समय R.V. said या said to को भाव के अनुसार requested, ordered में change कर देते हैं तथा let से पहले to का प्रयोग करते हैं।

Examples :-
Direct – Rohan said . “Let me show your book.”
Indirect – Rohan requested to let him show my book.

Direct – My mother said to the principal “Let me see my son.”
Indirect – My mother requested the principal to let her see her son.

Direct – The teacher said to the student, “Let me show your note book.”
Indirect – The teacher ordered the student to let him show his nate book.

Rule 7 – यदि R.S. में आया हुआ Imperative sentences ‘Let us’ से प्रारंभ हो तो Indirect बनाते समय R.V. said या said to को proposed (प्रस्ताव रखा) या suggested (सुझाव दिया) में change कर देते हैं तथा let us को that we should या that they should में change कर देते हैं।

Note – यदि R.V. में किसी first person के pronoun का‌ प्रयोग हो तो let us को that we should में change कर देते हैं।

Examples –
Direct – Rohan said to his friend, “Let’s wait for our friends.”
Indirect – Rohan requested his friends that they should wait for their friends.

Direct – My mother said to me, “Let us cook some nice food.”
Indirect – My mother suggested me that we should cook some nice food.

Direct – I said to him, “Let’s play cricket.”
Indirect – I proposed him that we should play cricket.

Rule 8 – यदि R.S. में आया हुआ Imperative sentences ‘Let there be’ से प्रारम्भ हो तो Indirect Narration बनाते समय R.V. – said या said to को भाव के अनुसार ordered, requested या advised में change कर देते हैं तथा let there be को that there should be में change कर देते हैं।

Examples –
Direct -The student said to the teacher, “Let there be no inquiry in my case.”
Indirect – The student requested the teacher that there should be no inquiry in his case. 

Direct – The teacher said to the students, “Let there be no noise in the class. “

Indirect – The teacher ordered the students that there should be no noise in the class.
